Below is the process for the Special Pay Accession/Retention Bonus:
Your paperwork is submitted to the NGB contract side first level review teamin Guard Incentive Management System (GIMS), NGB second level contractreview team, NGB QA team, and finally pending completion review team. Thenext step is the payment side of GIMS, once it gets to this point you shouldreceive your payment within 31 days. The documents are forwarded to NGBfirst level payment review team, NGB second level payment review team,create payment and finally reaches Defense Finance and Accounting Service(DFAS) for further payment processing.
Typically, it will take 60 days to receive your first payment and you will receive three to four installments depending on the dollar amount. DFAS does not like to pay more than 10K at a time, so you may receive multiple payments over a span of a couple of days. Your bonus is taxed at 25% federal tax, and your normal state tax. You will receive a cash payment first, and then serve your full one-year commitment. You will receive another cash payment on or around the anniversary date for installment payment #2, and serve another full year. If you signed a 3-year bonus, you will receive another cash payment on or around the anniversary date for installment payment #3, and serve another full year. If you signed a 4-year bonus, you will receive your fourth/final payment on or around the anniversary date, and serve your final full year commitment.
If you decide to leave the military before you complete your contractualservice obligation the government may recoup the money.The Special Pay Accession/Retention Bonus's show "Nurse Bonus" on the Leaveand Earning Statement regardless of AOC.Please submit documentation 60 days prior to your signature anniversary datein order to receive your payment close to that date.
This is important! You need to sign the contract the same day that it is send it to you and return it. If you sign it later, the contract is no longer valid. An official Memorandum For Record must be initiated. It can fix all except the service member's signature and date.
